What is Deep Brain Reorienting?
Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is a trauma therapy developed by Dr. Frank Corrigan that targets the brainstem's primitive responses (orienting tension, shock) to process traumatic memories, especially attachment trauma. Rather than having clients consciously relive traumatic memories, DBR works by tracking and reorienting the original sequence of neurophysiological reactions stored in the deep brain structures, particularly the midbrain of the brainstem, helping stuck survival responses resolve and allowing clients to feel more grounded and present.

Key Features:
- Focus on physiology over narrative: DBR accesses traumatic experiences by following the body's physiological response sequence rather than requiring detailed recounting of the traumatic event.
- Brainstem-level processing: It targets deep subcortical brain structures where trauma responses are stored, rather than primarily working with higher cortical regions.
- Primary applications: Originally developed for treating attachment shock, but also effective for other unresolved traumatic experiences and PTSD.
